CUPS setup question

hi folks,

First off... thanks for CUPS--- works great!

Here is the question... I have an older HP LaserJet 4L hung off an epp port on a Suse 10 linux box and shared on the network (it is working perfectly)... and I print to that printer from several client boxes (also Suse 10 linux machines). I configured this "network" printer on each of the remote pcs using the standard printer driver for the hp4l. (as noted, they work fine) I want to know which machine actually formats the output for the pritner: the driver on the host machine where the printer is actually attached, or the driver on the remote machine, or both?? I am wondering if I only need to configure the driver on the host machine... and then call the printer a "raw" printer everywhere else... or is CUPS supposed to sort this out? At the moment every machine has the standard driver configured and it all works... I am just wanting some clarification on "how" it is working and if I can make it more efficient... whatever I mean by that.
Thanks folks.
