HP LaserJet 5p USB Stops at 8%

I have had this LaserJet working on a USB converter for the longest time, using CUPS on my Macintosh, Tiger OS X. I recently decided to update CUPS and now all print jobs go to 8% and remain there. I have uninstalled CUPS, the ppd and other relevant info with no success upon reinstallation.
Does anyone else have a similar situation and the fix?
