Retaining printers.conf when updating CUPS

Can I ask where the 'Printer Options' which I set in the web interface are recorded permanently by CUPS - these are all added to printers.conf, are they not, along with the basic printer configuration details? When a new version of CUPS is released, I install it in a separate directory from the 'production' installation, and copy over the cupsd.conf and printers.conf file and also my added PPD files before stopping the old and starting the new server. This is enough so that I do not have to re-set all the printer options each time I reinstall, surely? (Because of STR 2022, I've had to re-set everything up to now, but I don't want to have to do it every time I reinstall in future.)

I presume I could run a new installation and an old in parallel by setting the 'listen' port of the new installation to (say) 632, and testing it with commands such as 'lpr -H printserver:632'.
