2G limit on RHEL4?

Folks, I'm working with some folks that hit a 2G print job size limit on RHEL4 (CUPS 1.1.22). They believe this limitation is fixed in CUPS 1.2. They tried pulling the binaries for 1.2, and discovered it broke the system-config-printer tool.

Any advice on how to move this forward to enable the printing of >2G files? I tried searching the FAQ for "2G" - without success...
Any pointers appreciated!
