CUPS-PDF for different width reports

Hi All,

We are running CUPS on Redhat Linux and have installed CUPS-PDF.

The problem we have is that many of our reports are different widths, up to 240 character per line and CUPS-PDF has a "one size fits all" approach. By adding entries to lpoptions I can set the cpi to accommodate the widest report but that means that the normal 132 column reports are being squashed up against the left side of the page.

I have a script that will take a text file and work out for itself the correct orientation, chars per line and lines per page then generate a PDF that always fits onto an A4 sheet. What I don't know is how to use the script to generate the PDF file and bypass CUPS-PDF's generation of the PDF file.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
PT
