Slow Print Spooling

I have a Red Hat server that, one of its functions is a print server for close to 80 printers.  Now CUPSD seems to be utilizing a HIGH portion the CPU (actually a core of a CPU), but not a lot of memory.  When anyone prints to a printer on this server it takes at least 30 secs to spool, even if it is a plain text doc.  I have not got the most up-to-date version of cups (I'm a few months old).  Will getting the newest version help me with my problem??
