Mac connecting to CUPS server on SUSE

Connecting system: Macbook (OS X Tiger 10.4.9), CUPS 1.3, HP driver (for direct connection) installed, prints correctly when directly connected.

Server: OpenSUSE 10.2, CUPS 1.3, printer broadcasted and configured, works correctly from server.

Printer: HP Photosmart C3100 series.

Symptoms: Printer not found through CUPS. Tried with the Gimp-print driver and the generic PostScript driver to no avail.

Here's the current printer settings from the CUPS management page on the server:

Description: HP Photosmart C3100 series
Location: USB printer on //HP/Photosmart%20C3100%20series?serial=CN69SC40NM04KV
Make and Model: HP PhotoSmart C3100 Foomatic/hpijs (recommended)
Printer State: idle, accepting jobs, published.
Device URI: usb://HP/Photosmart%20C3100%20series?serial=CN69SC40NM04KV

And here's the output from the CUPS server on the Mac client trying to connect:
Description: MotokoPrint
Location: 192.168.1.6://HP/Photosmart%20C3100%20series?serial=CN69SC40NM04KV
Printer State: processing, accepting jobs.
"recoverable: Unable to connect to printer; will retry in 30 seconds...: Operation timed out"
Device URI: lpd://192.168.1.6//HP/Photosmart%20C3100%20series?serial=CN69SC40NM04KV/MotokoPrint

I've tried specifying just the IP, the whole URI line, the whole URI line replacing "usb" with the IP address of the server... nothing.

Someone please help me configure this. I don't like being told "it doesn't work". And I'm certain that's why the rest of you are here too...

Gryyphyn, out.
