How set cpi & lpi for a ascii-job?

A samba client sends a ascii-print job to opensuse10.2/cups.
The HPlaserjet 1120 prints the job on a A3-sheet, but the job won´t fit on the page. The client can not manipulate the data to be printed, so cups has to define cpi, lpi & other parameters. How can i do this?

The samba-server ran for several years under suse8.0 & lprng.
To manipulate the printjob, i set up a raw queue and included the parameters in etc/lpdfilter/<printername>/conf. Worked fine, but now i have to update to sth. newer.
I´m stuck now after wasting a lot of time & paper.

Anyone?
