[cups.general] cannot print from openoffice or gimp

Is there anybody out there who can steer me the right direction to get 
cups 1.2.12 to work with OpenOffice 2.2.1 and Gimp 2.2.13 on FreeBSD 6.2?
Maybe this isn't the right list?
