Zebra card printer

I have read all the threads here relating to Zebra printers, and it seems that everyone is using the label printers.  I have a need to talk to a Zebra p310i ID card printer from Mac OS X 10.4 via USB. 10.5 is not an option, because of a Mac Classic application beyond my control.

Specs on the p310i say:

  "Powerful EPCL (Printer Command Language)"

I also have seen it referred to as "EcPL".  Is this actually the EPL supported in the newest CUPS driver set, and if so, is color supported?

There is no mention in specs I have seen of ZPL.

Any advice or arcane knowledge about this printer is welcome.
