cupsd not responding

Hello folks,
  I am running cups on a FreeBSD 6.1 box.  I am attempting to use cups with the SMB backend to print to a XP shared printer.
  Cups is running.  I can get the front page of the built in web server running on port 631.  The problem is, when I click "Add Printer", the browser churns away indefinitely. It is not just the web interface.  If I attempt to retrieve available drivers with lpinfo -m, same thing... it just sits there until such time as I hit ctrl-c.
  Does anyone know what might be going on?  If any more information is required, please let me know.
