Matt, Thanks for the info. I went to the cups faqs and learned that I have to print through the CUPSptal backend not the usb backend. They say to configure the device ptal - init setup, then restart the cups daeman.  Do I leave the G55 connected via usb? Now, if I use the Fedora Core 5 Printer Configuration GUI it automatically scans for the printer and comes up with /usb/lpo. It has the provision to select a custom device, should I use that and how do I do so?   How do I configure the 'device ptal - init setup? Thanks for your help. Larry
