[cups.general] When does cupsd write changes to config files?

Hello,

as far as I understand it, "lpadmin -h server ..." and
"lpoptions -h server ..." talk only to the cupsd running
on the server but then it is up to the cupsd when it is
actually written to the config files.

Is there an assured maximum amount of time until config files
get updated?

Is there a way to force cupsd to update its config files
(e.g. send a SIGHUP or whatever other signal)?

Background information:
A printer setup tool runs "lpadmin -h server ..." and
"lpoptions -h server ..." and it wants to make sure
that the changes are actually written to the files
so that the setup tool knows that the config persists
(e.g. even if the system would crash a bit later).
If "server" == "localhost", the printer setup tool might inspect
the config files directly whether or not it is written there
but this is ugly and it does not work if it is a remote server.

Kind Regards
Johannes Meixner
