[cups.general] CUPS printing to Océ Varioprint printers (specifically the 2045)

Greetings all,

I'm studying at a university which provides printing services via a 
number of Océ Varioprint 2045 copier/printers.  I've spent several years 
now without being able to connect to these printers, largely due to a 
lack of documentation on how to connect CUPS (on Mac OS X) to these 
printers.  I thought I would ask the list members for help on this issue.

Basically, while I can download and install the driver, the Macintosh 
does not discover the Varioprint automatically.  Thus, I've tried 
figuring out the IP and constructing an smb:// connection string, 
without any luck.  While the Mac print services will accept this string 
and create a print queue, printing to this queue accomplishes nothing 
(the print job hangs around forever without progressing, until I delete 
the job or the queue).

Windows computers discover the Varioprint and connect to it without 
problems.  The Varioprint itself is actually running a version of CUPS 
to provide its print services, thus it puzzles me that CUPS on Mac has 
such a problem with connection.
