Yes.

Maybe too many jobs in too rapid a sequence? Or too large ones? Or job
titles with weird characters? Or timeouts? Or usage of 'unreserved' source
ports?

You may want to play with the parameter settings available for the lpd://
backend URI syntax. Especially the "?contimeout=seconds", "?timeout=seconds",
"?reserve=rfc1179" and "?sanitize_title=yes" additions...  See also

for more details. In the end, a variation of

   lpd://ip-address/queuename?reserve=rfc1179&contimeout=11&timeout=12&sanitize_title=yes

may be what your Linksys-es like better...
