Well, Jerome, now it is your term to proof that you've been suffering from a misunderstanding, or are not up to date to latest developments:       ;-)

   - SUSE/Novell are releasing their base distribution under the name of
     "openSUSE" (very much like Redhat/Fedora) since quite some time.

   - ISO images for CDs and DVDs are completely freely available (as well
     as are "always-current" packages from their build service, etc.).

   - And their build service does even offer to build packages for *any*
     non-Novell distribution too!

(Sorry for participating in this off-topic thread... but /me thinks a lot of CUPS users could soon be benefitting from what practical results may come out of it in the end.)
