[cups.general] PDFs do not Print

OK, so scenario number 1 and 2 works, but number 3 doesn't. 

Which means most of your printing system works fine, the problem is
limited to your pdftops filter.

Again, check your error_log and see what pdf filter you are using and
whether it reports any problems. 

How about manually convert PDF to Postscript using pdf2ps filter and raw
printing the generated Postscript to printer? (Sharp and Gestetner)?
