Client polling - determine last and next update

Hello all.

Is there a simple and accurate way to determine when the client last
polled the servers for update and when the next poll will occur?

One way I know of, but uncertain of accuracy, is by looking at the
printcap file time-stamp and use that to determine the next poll based
on the poll interval.
