Brother HL-1430.
Works on an old laptop via parallel interface.
New laptop has only USB. Trouble begins.
CUPS automatically recognises USB connection, and proposes to add the printer (with a terribly long name).
There is no HL-1430 driver. Installed a 1430 driver from the Brother website. Awfully complicated, and in the end no success.
Started from the beginning. CUPS proposes HL-1440 driver. Google suggests HL-1250. Tried both.
Tried to print test page. Twinkling LED's on the printer, and promising noise. Message in CUPS: »gutenprint bla bla 6%«. However, no test page comes out. Printer falls back to sleep. Message in CUPS: »not connected«.
Any clues?
More specific information needed?
Thanks in advance, Joachim
