[cups.general] Latest CUPS killed all my OS X printers

Germ,

While I am not a fan with how Apple implemented CUPS in OS X necessarily, it
might not have been CUPS that killed your printers....

Some items for you to consider

If you were running a customized version of a conf file you should be aware that
updating OS X overwrites the files.

If you are installing a non-OS X version of CUPS then you should indicate
specifics.... I really haven't had much of a problem with CUPS on OS X except
for using as against a non OS X cups version as a print server from 10.3 to
10.4.9 (there have been some little troubles from time to time... but nothing
that killed CUPS altogethr)

OS X updates invariably require rebooting, but your last comment suggests you
have not done this..... why? did you kill cups before you updated? is cups
running and if so which version?

There are (what, anomalies?) in OS X between gui and kernel and gui and packages
like cups, but you haven't provided much to go on....

reboot the machine.

Is cups even running (I am assuming if you are updating cups that you can use
terminal to determine what cups is doing...)

identify whether you are using OS X's CUPS or something you downloaded and if
the latter detail all the steps you took to remove the OS X version as well as
the steps you took to install the version you say you just installed.

identify whether you customized the cups or client conf files

indicate whether you are using remote print servers, local printers, etc.

what is in /Library/Printers

what is in the logfile

hey... isn't there something that suggests that one do all that before writing
to the list and saying CUPS doesn't work?
