Cups 1.2.6 & PDF- without foomatic-rip

Greetings,

Is there a quick way to get CUPS to print PDF reports?

I recently installed CUPS 1.2.6 on a Solaris 10 8/07 server. Using a PPD file from Linuxprint.org I can get text and PS to print on my first test printer, but not PDF's. We are migrating/upgrading a mfg application from HPUX to Solaris, and we were using Foomatic-rip along with CUPS for much of our print solution on the legacy system. I was hoping to just port much of the print config, but the difference in Unix's is slowing me down, and I dont know much about Foomatic, except that most of our ~200 PPD's contain cupsFilter-foomatic-rip statements and we appear to rely heavily upon it. If I can at least get PDF, PS and text printing by my Aug 20 deadline, I can buy some time to explore Foomatic-rip/perl/etc, including reasons for continuing to use it, the level of complexity, or go some other direction, which is really a second question I have for anyone knowledgeable about foo.

Thanks for your interest,
Ed Smith
