[cups.general] DeviceURI socket://192.168.x.x:9100 not available on debian system

I am attempting to install a networked hp printer (P2015dn) under a
debian cups installation and am having problems.  The installation will
not let me set the DeviceURI to socket://192..168.x.x:9100, which I think
is the correct setting.  lpinfo -v gives the following output:

direct hp:/no_device_found
network http
network ipp
network lpd
direct parallel:/dev/lp0
direct canon:/dev/lp0
direct epson:/dev/lp0
file cups-pdf:/
network smb

a "network socket" line is missing.

 From where is lpstat -v getting this information?  How do I upgrade?
