CUPS 1.3.6 - Make fails

I'm trying to compile CUPS 1.3.6 on AIX 5.3. Running ./configure completes but when I try to do a make it fails with

a - Stream.o

a - UnicodeTypeTable.o
a - XpdfPluginAPI.o
a - XRef.o
