[cups.general] switch from XP attached print to CUPS on linux box

I believe I need some help.
Currently, my primary printer, an HP iiip, is connected to a linux box,
which is running an instance of Win4Lin 4, a VM which has served me well.
However, I no longer need to run Win4Lin on this machine, aside from the
fact that I haven't taken the time yet to configure my printer to print
using CUPS and SAMBA from both linux and XP machines on my small LAN.
I'd like to blitz the Win4Lin installation after I get CUPS set up. Any
suggestions on setting up, so that I can accept print jobs from both linux
and XP machines?
Another question somewhat related revolves around printing from an online
catalogue, which displays pages on an e-zine. The pages display fine on the
monitor, but when I print out, with the current setup, the printer drivers
have half-tone automatically set ON and I have to set it to SuperCell to get
the print output to be readable. Would running CUPS and SAMBA instead change
this and increase my print quality output options?
Please advise!
Scott
