You can use this as an example:
Lpadmin -p QUEUNAME -E -v socket://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:9100 -m laserjet.ppd
Where QUEUNAME is the name of your print queue
Where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is your IP for the physical printer
The :9100 indicates it is an HP JetDirect
Your mileage will vary depending on whether you are using JetDirect, an lpd, a raw printer or to another server. The command line changes but maybe if you check 'man lpadmin' the above could help in at least getting you started.
HTH and have a GREAT day!

Hi,
As posted in previous message, I can't add printer in cups 1.3. So I'm
wondering how to add cups printer from command line.
Here is info regarding my printer:
$ pconf_detect -m USB -i 0
device=;vendor=EPSON;model=Stylus CX1500
$ lpinfo -v
network socket
network beh
file cups-pdf:/
direct usb://EPSON/Stylus%20CX1500
direct epson:/dev/usb/lp0
network http
network ipp
network lpd
direct pdf
direct scsi
network ssh
$ lpinfo -m | grep -i Stylus.*cx1500
gutenprint.5.0://escp2-cx1500/expert/C Epson Stylus CX1500 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.0.2
Here is the old copy when I was using cups 1.2
$ cat /etc/printcap
# This file was automatically generated by cupsd(8) from the
# /etc/cups/printers.conf file. All changes to this file
# will be lost.
cups_pdf|CUPS-PDF Virtual Printer:rm=localhost:rp=cups_pdf:
epson_cx1500|Epson Stylus CX1500:rm=localhost:rp=epson_cx1500:
I'm wondering how to add my printer using 'lpadmin'.
Please help.
Thanks
tong
