Unable to write print data: Broken pipe

I am running Kubuntu 8.04 (hardy herron) from my laptop, on a small LAN with a networked Fuji-Xerox Docuprint c525a. I downloaded an rpm driver for the printer from the F-X website, and converted to a deb with Alien.

If I try to print more than one or two pages I get nothing. The problem appears to be a "broken pipe" (see the error log below).

This is really, really annoying, I hope you can help.
