Which is exactly why a vendor can provide their own filter, port
monitor, and/or backend if they want to support their own
implementation of a protocol.  Current 1.4 is *not* feature
complete, and in particular you will see side-channel support for
SNMP and a new PPD keyword that tells the backends not to use the
standard SNMP Printer MIB lookups.

All we can do is write code that follows the standards.  If a vendor
doesn't want to follow the standards, they have to write their own
code.
