printing from linux to windows Vista attached hp officejet 4255

Hello,
I 'm trying to configure my gentoo desktop running cups 1.3.8 to print to a HP officejet 4255 attached to a windows vista PC using hpijs-2.8.6b, LPD or Samba. The problem is that the job is sent to the winbox (no warnings from the gentoo side) but it then stucks in the winbox printer queue. The printer starts its procedure to print (align the cartridges etc) but when it's time to feed the paper it stops and the job stays forever in the queue, no error/warning messages produced. I 've tried printing both us-ascii text files and pdf/ps files with no luck.

Any ideas?
