Hi Michael,
Here is my dmesg output:

[root at localhost mdv64]# dmesg | grep parport
parport_pc 00:08: reported by Plug and Play ACPI
parport0: PC-style at 0x378 (0x778), irq 7, dma 3 [PCSPP,TRISTATE,COMPAT,ECP,DMA]
parport0: Printer, HEWLETT-PACKARD DESKJET 710C
parport_pc 00:08: disabled
[root at localhost mdv64]#

So, I'm not a specialist, but something inside the system knows that HP710C is connected. For my point of view, the //port driver is loaded, maybe working.
But I can't "decrypt" the output.
Don't know if "parport_pc 00;08:disabled" is a problem or not.

Do you have another test I can do?

regards,
