CUPS 1.4.2 make test fails with "FAIL: 0 error messages, expected 18."

Hi,

I'm trying to compile CUPS 1.4.2 under Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex).  Whether compiling from the source tarball from cups.org or the sources from the Ubuntu repositories I get the following error during "make test":

FAIL: 0 error messages, expected 18.

This is the only error in the entire test suite.  "make" seems to have compiled everything without any error.

What are these 18 errors supposed to be?
