CUPS test page prints, but nothing else will

What OS are you running?
I don't have an HP printer at this time, but I think you need HPLIP 
installed depending on your distribution.

in searching http://www.linuxprinting.org/printer_list.cgi?make=HPAnd 
looking at the color laserjet 3600 I fine the following information at 
this Link.
  http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=HP-
Color_LaserJet_3600 Make sure you are using the following driver : 
pxljr (Home page). If not you should be able to get it from HPLIP I 
think or from the HP site.
 

Did you install the correct PPD for your printer? Look in 
/etc/cups/ppd and see whats there. Also you can log on to cups from 
the web interface and check everything from there. 

Also in Firefox see if file-->print has the correct printer selected.
