If I go to the cups website it tells me I have the wrong password even though I have a new one mailed to me. Does this work? If I configure my printers from the sys prefs, It asks for the ip address, I give the address of the windows computer that has three prtrs hooked to it. How does it know which one? Its funny I could print from my windows laptop just by browsing for the printer. Also where is the etc directory?I have exploded the cups 1.4b2 file, and it created a dir with a bunch of c+ type files, makefiles etc. Im clueless. Its definitely not for the beginner.

Mac OS X already includes CUPS, so you don't need to (nor do you want
to since you are not a printer driver developer) try to install a
different version of CUPS on your system.

While we may be able to provide you with some help here, you will
probably get more help on Apple's own discussion forums, from the
AppleCare folks, or from a "genius" at an Apple store (all of which
hold regular classes on how to use a Mac, BTW...) Normally adding
a printer is as simple as plugging it into your Macbook Pro (for a
USB printer) or clicking on it in the Default view when you bring
up the Add Printer window (available from the print dialog of most
applications).
