I'm in the process of adding support for Avahi, an implementation of
mDNS/DNS-SD.

It is not yet complete, but seems to be working for at least the dnssd
backend.

I'm attaching a patch for review, to see if I'm heading in the right
direction before continuing on with the scheduler.
