Hum, well on another machine that also reports same driver and version
(and same up-to-date- Ubuntu) the printer works perfectly.

    Description: hp photosmart 7350
    Location: bumby2
Printer Driver: HP Photosmart 7350 Foomatic/hpijs, hpijs 2.8.7
Printer State: idle, accepting jobs, published.
    Device URI: hp:/usb/photosmart_7350?serial=MY372432KQ6N

Has anyone experience problems like this that were USB related?

The problem machine is an older Dell with a fresh Ubuntu install and I
connected the old machine's hard disk up to an IDE->USB connector and
it mounted fine once, but then later I could not get it to mount.
Then I tried on another machine and the drive mounted fine via USB.
USB is working for transferring photos from a camera fine.

So, I'm wondering if I don't have a problem with the USB hardware on
the computer. I suppose anything is possible. But, it's not looking
like a driver issue.

Just the kind of problem I like. ;)
