Empty Print File!

When I try to print from the command line it disables my printer and says "Empty print file!".

Previous to this I had tried printing test pages without an issue, but this is the first time I am trying to print something "real". I am trying to print a one line text document created with 'vi'. Starting the printer again after removing the test.txt file from the print queue clears the "Empty print file!" message.

What is the "print file" -- something internal to CUPS, or the file I am trying to print? The file I am trying to print is certainly not empty. Is there any troubleshooting I can do?
