hello. I have a laptop running Ubuntu Desktop, and a desktop running Ubuntu Server, with a connected printer. my goal is to be able to print from my laptop.

CUPS was installed when selected during Ubuntu Server installation.

With a little tinkering, CUPS found my USB-connected printer. A successful test-page looked promising.

next, I modified the cupsd.config file:

I added a line (below "Listen localhost:631") that said "Listen 192.168.1.0/24".
I added a line below "<Location />" that said "Allow 192.168.1.*".

I then changed then changed a line from "Browsing Off" to "Browsing On".

I feel so close (and I don't smoke cigars) .. I can see the networked printer from my laptop's printer menu.. but when I try to print a test page, I get nothing!! I don't understand!!

anyone with some expertise?

thanks,
alex
