Summary:
Intel / Moblin have some patches to allow CUPS
to be launched via xinetd.
This seems to work quite nicely, and saves boot time
at the cost of not having cupsd running all the time
(so that there is presumably no sharing of local queues).
Perhaps it might even work when xinetd starts it for
remote users (but this was not tested)?

Patches attached.
We will ship this in SUSE/Moblin.
The attached patches are presumably for CUPS 1.3.11
(depending on what CUPS version there is in SUSE/Moblin).

It would be great to have it as "official" feature in CUPS.
