CUPS Performance on Ubuntu 9.04

Greetings,

I have HP Inkjet USB printer connected to a NetGear Print Server with LAN and wireless.  I send print jobs from WINXP, WIN7 and Ubuntu 9.04 systems.  However, the print performance from Ubuntu seems much slower than what comes from the windows boxes.  The main differences are with text printing as opposed to graphics.

The Ubuntu system is a desktop connected to a LAN.  The Windows systems are laptops with wireless access to the Print Server.  All connection use the LPR//192.168.1.xxx/L1 URI.

Where should I start?
