Adding to this :
If I use lpadmin -p to add a printer (running as root)
the printer is available until the next re-start of the cupsd

If I add a printer via the browser interface - the same is true.


To work around this I have started to edit the printers.conf manually, but I suspect this is asking for trouble.

I do not know where to look for finding the differences between my 2 servers, so if someone can point me to likely files, it would help.
This is a live system so I need to be very careful of what I change.
