Not necessarily. The printer needs either a separate PDF renderer or an 
extended PS interpreter (similar to Ghostscript or Harlequin RIPs),
and the printer either needs enough memory to hold the whole PDF in memory 
or a hard disk to temporarily save the PDF (note that PDF commonly needs a 
storage that permits direct access and is seekable).
