shared printer discovery

I have a printer attached to a linux machine running CUPS 1.3.11, shared on the network.  I have an iBook (OS X Tiger) running CUPS 1.1.23 which sees this printer and prints to it without a hitch.  I recently added a new MacBook (Snow Leopard) running CUPS 1.4.2.  The new machine does not see the printer on the network, and all attempts to add it manually have resulted in "printer does not exist" or "host is busy" errors.

Any help greatly appreciated.
