Printer not printing.

I installed my new canon Pixma MX860 printer on my SUSE linux 10.2 system.
The command 'lpc status' gave the following:
canon:
        printer is on device 'usb' speed -1
        queuing is enabled
        printing is enabled
        no entries
        daemon present

The command lp /etc/hosts do not print nothing.
The printer is printing when connected to my laptop which is a windows XP system.

I cant find why it is not printing when connected to Linux system.
