The above is a really good approach in many situations.

If you are set on configuring the queues on each individual client or if you have a number of servers to keep in a consistent sate then you may also be interested in looking at PrinterSetup : http://www.lucidsystems.org/printingworks/printersetup/

With PrinterSetup essentially, you create a text file to represent each print queue. These PSF (Printer Setup Files) contain details for the setup of the print queue. There is also an example script bundled with PrinterSetup to generate the PSF file(s) from a running cups instance.
