Problem getting 1.4.3 to compile/install

We are running a Sun Solaris 10 X86.

Downloaded 1.4.3 source tar file.
Ran config and it worked fine.
Ran make and it failed, with errors about unterminated #ifdef and #ifndef
Tried as gmake and it failed as well with same type of errors.

Any ideas as to what we do in order to get this compiled?
