[cups.general] Can lpr image a PDF?

I have a Xerox Phaser 7400 connected by ethernet to my Fedora 11
x86_64 computer. I have been told by an Adobe employee (who says he has
one in his office) that this printer does not have the Adobe PDF print
engine. Yet, if I send a PDF file to it with lpr from the command line
the file images perfectly.

Either lpr is imaging the PDF file, or the Adobe person is wrong. I am
curious which it is.
