CUPS 1.4.4 slow - problem checklist?

Tim, since there is no --version option with the system-config-printer-applet we have and since I can't find any version number in the Python code, I can't answer the question of what version we have. The copyright date is 2010 and it requires the Python cups library version 1.9.46.

I'm downloading the latest version 1.2.5 dated 13th October 2010 from http://cyberelk.net/tim/software/system-config-printer/ and it does the same as the (presumably earlier) version we have.
