Your notebook has a built-in parallel port and the printer
is directly connected there?

If yes, have a look at
http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Installing_a_Printer
regarding "BIOS settings for the first parallel interface"
and how to test the basic data transfer (Epson matrix printers
can print ASCII text directly - at least if the printer is
set to defaults e.g. via dip switches in the printer).

But if you use whatever kind of converter (a docking station
or whatever kind of "this to that" converter cable)
to connect the parallel port printer to whatever connector
at the notebook, you may have a look at the following:

Regarding parallel port <-> USB converters see
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=264219#c1

Regarding parallel printer on docking station see
