Unsupported compression "gzip"!

I'v had to recompile and install 1.4.8 on another Centos 4.8 machine. On this new one, when I ipp print from another machine to it, it complains about:

'Unsupported compression "gzip"!'

and refuses to accept the job. I seem to recall that I have to do something with a mime definition file somewhere. But I can't remember what. I can see from an strace that it's reading several filters in /usr/lib/cups/filters. But gziptoany is not one of them.

Any pointers would be appreciated.
