need help installing dcp 7040 mav 10.7

I am having trouble setting up printer on macbook pro os 10.7.  I downloaded cups driver and installed it. i can print a test page but when go to word or acrobat will not print. gives me message "some of software for printer is missing'  then i click 'install' and i see  'finding software' then that breaks off search and says "the operation could not be completed".  despite all this the printer seems to be the one installed in settings.
