cups loops and writes huge spool data

Hello.
I have a CUPS server 1.4.7 for about 100 printers.
Sometimes the server loops (I think so because the cupsd process CPU goes to 100%) and starts writing to the spool directory huge files. It stops writing only when the disk is full. The problem temporarily disappears restarting cups and manually cleaning the spool directory.
CUPS is running on a CentOS 5.5 OS and the same behavior happened with the version 1.3.7-26.

Do you have any experience on this?
